China-Australia Dialogue

The China-Australia Dialogue program, convened by The Global Foundation, provides members with a unique opportunity to be involved in the development of the bilateral relationship at senior levels.

2006 Mission to the People's Republic of China

The Global Foundation mounted a working mission to China from Wednesday 20 - 24 April 2006, visiting Beijing and attending the Boao Forum.  The delegation of fifteen participants included representatives of Australian and global companies.

The purpose of the mission was to strengthen China-Australia dialogue and understanding, through a series of individual meetings and briefings and attendance at the Boao Forum.  The 2006 delegation intersected with the visit to China by the Australian Prime Minister.

Inaugural Mission to the People's Republic of China

In November 2001, The Global Foundation, at the invitation of the Chinese Government and affiliates, staged a very successful Mission to Beijing, which included the inaugual China-Australia bilateral meeting, The Australian Prime Minister lent his support to the Mission, which made a useful and timely contribution to the development of relations between the two nations. It was proposed in Beijing that further meetings might be arranged with a view to developing a sustained pattern of engagement and relationship building.

A further China-Australia bilateral meeting was held in 2002 in conjunction with the official visit to Australia by His Excellency Li Peng, Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress of China and accompanying high-level delegation.

In September 2003, the Global Foundation again visited Beijing with a large delegation of business and academic leaders and government policy-makers and partnered with the China Institute of International Studies for a formal China-Australia Bilateral Dialogue meeting and a series of individual meetings with an economic and policy focus.

This visit was followed sixth months later, in April 2004, by another Global Foundation led delegation, which incorporated attendance at the Boao Forum for Asia.

The Foundation enjoys the full support of and close co-operation with the Australian Government and the Government of China and visited China again in 20-24 April 2005 at the invitation of Mr Long Yongtu, Secretary General, Boao Forum for Asia.  

The Mission incorporated meetings in Beijing and Hainan Island at the Boao Forum for Asia.  The delegation led by the Secretary of the Foundation, Mr Steve Howard, comprised leaders from the resources, banking, insurance, legal, consulting, telecommunications and IT security sectors.  The purpose of the mission was to strengthen China-Australia dialogue and understanding, through a series of individual meetings and briefings and attendance at the Boao Forum.
