The Australian Society consultation aimed to focus on defining and evaluating the emerging pressures and challenges on Australian society, both domestic and international and envisioning the society of 20 years hence:
Identity
What has promoted multicultural integration and social cohesion in the past and what will do so in the future? What is our sense of national identity? How should it be nurtured?
Education
What should be done about Australia’s -achieving but low-equity secondary education system? What is taught about society – history, civics and so forth?
Indigenous
How should Australia properly address the inequalities of its indigenous population? Is enough being done to acknowledge success and encourage pride in indigenous achievement?
Community
What is the future of ‘community’? How do we deal with crime or community divisions? What is the future social capital we are building?
Culture
Are we building a culturally vibrant environment in which creativity and ideas blossom? How is our political system evolving? What roles for business and the private sector? What are the responsibilities or citizens and corporations both nationally and internationally?
